MANDATORY  EPA  CHANGES  FOR  HEAT  PUMPS

EPA regulations will halt production of pool heat pumps using R-22 refrigerant effective January 1, 2010, and require manufacture of heat pumps using the new “green” R410-A refrigerant which is ozone friendly.

BUYER BEWARE  --  If  you are in the market for a heat pump this year, make certain it meets the R410-A refrigerant requirement.  Purchasing an R-22 refrigerant heat pump will only be more costly to operate and will not be able to be serviced due to the new government refrigerant standards.
